FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE It Don’t Mean A Thing... If It Ain’t Got That Swing! Collins Productions Family Urban Garden Party with Queen of Swing Norma Miller Saint Paul, Minnesota --- Queen of Swing Norma Miller will hold court at the Collins Production’s Family Urban Garden Party, scheduled for Saturday, September 8 from 2 6 p.m. at the Collins’ Family Home, 965 Selby Avenue (corner of Chatsworth.) Suggested donation is $10 per person; $5 seniors and children under 5. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The joint will be hopping as Mary Collins opens up her family’s historic home for an old fashioned family Urban Garden Party in celebration of her dear friend, fellow Jazz & Swing historian Norma Miller. Ms. Miller will delight one and all with stories of her years on the road and will also sign copies of Al Governor’s Stompin’ at the Savoy, based on her childhood growing up in Harlem and early dance career. The swinging afternoon also features live entertainment and children’s activities. Clips from the Queen of Swing documentary featuring footage of her dancing in the films Hellzapoppin and A Day at the Races; the music sounds of her road buddies…Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Sammy Davis Jr. will be shown throughout the day. The documentary will be shown at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, September 1 at Tapestry Folk Center, 3748 Minnehaha Avenue South, Minneapolis (TC Swing’s First Saturday Swing Dance featuring the Swing Beat Big Band follows at 7:30 p.m.) The film will also be shown at 7 p.m. on Friday evening, September 7 at the Virginia Street Swedenborgorgian Church, 170 Virginia St., St. Paul. Cost for both events is $10 per person. An author, choreographer, dancer, comedian and actor whose career spans over seven decades, Ms. Miller is a recipient of a National Heritage Foundation Fellowship from the National Endowments of the Arts. She continues to travel around the world teaching Master Classes and attending Swing Dance Festivals a true inspiration to all who know her. Guests at the Collins Productions’ Family Urban Garden Party can also enjoy a traditional soul food sampler with and delectable desserts. A Silent Auction to benefit Collins Productions will offer samplings of work from local world renowned artists, vacation packages and gift certificates from local businesses.
